Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth;

break into song; sing praise.

Sing praise to the Lord with the harp,

with the harp and melodious song.

With trumpets and the sound of the horn

shout with joy to the King, the Lord.

Psalm 98

Music is an integral part of our liturgical celebrations at Christ the King Church. During Sunday Mass, at funerals and weddings, and on special feasts, music helps to bond all of us together in prayer as we come together to worship.

    Music in liturgy has the capacity to transcend words and ideas and can facilitate within the faithful a powerful connection to that which is eternal and divine. And while we are all participants in the music, some of us are called to minister to the congregation by sharing our diverse musical talents with the assembly.

    The Music Ministries at Christ the King Church, under the direction of William J. Thomas, include cantors, instrumentalists, and two choirs: Christ the King Singers for members high school age and beyond, and the Youth Choir for members in elementary and middle grades.

Christ the King Singers is an all-volunteer adult choir of both non-professional and trained voices. The ensemble's repertoire ranges in style and includes chant, Renaissance motets, music from the Baroque and Classical periods, contemporary Gospel, and music from diverse cultures. The choir has sung in English, Latin, French, German, and African languages. Rather than performing for the assembly, the choir's mission is to communicate in musical expression the Word of God, enhancing the liturgy and supporting the congregation in song.

    Christ the King Singers sings at the 10:30 Mass from the parish feast of Christ the King in November through Corpus Christi, and at other services during the Christmas holidays and Easter Triduum. Rehearsals are Tuesdays at 7:30 pm in the church. Membership is open to anyone who can "carry a tune"; music-reading skills are helpful but not necessary.

The Youth Choir at Christ the King Church is open to young people in elementary and middle school.  This choir sings from late fall through Easter, usually on the third Sunday of the month at the 10:30 liturgy. The Youth Choir also sings at the 5pm Christmas Eve mass and occasional other times. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 6:15 to 7:15 pm. Again, music-reading skills are not necessary, but an ability to "carry a tune" and a willingness to learn while having fun are essential!
